Anders Knutsson - Field Of Faith - Short film on the lighting of a luminous painting.

A number of years back as I visited NYC, I visited Painter Anders Knutsson in his Bed-Stuy studio. He talked with me about the Luminous Paintings he had been making since the 80's, and asked if there was a way to share their glow in a video form. at the time there were no cameras that could see in light that low and still have quality video. Eventually a number of them are available but alas, they are out of my grasp at the time. So I suggested that long exposure pictures laid one after the other in the "timeline" of the video editing program might be of interest. He agreed and we sat about taking many photos of the one that he wished to work on that day. This is the result of that blessed day.

So as Anders wished, we kept working on more video essays on various paintings that are difficult to see in reproduction so the idea of a group of still images faded together fills a need to grasp the emitted beauty of these paintings through the computer, and I think we've done a pretty cool thing here. The memories are all quite wonderful, watching Ander stand by the window, ready to recharge the paintings as needed. Like a Soldier of Painting he made sure it all ran smooth. The biggest problem I had was during editing, so many times I had problems with an edit and would have to defer to Anders how to fix it. Usually it involved moving around an image or six, but after much trepidation that has turned into beauty, here is that second video on Field Of Faith.

If you enjoy the music, it's actually one of my mid-90's guitar improvisations that I was vehemently recording every chance I got. Every chance I picked up the guitar at that period of time, I was immediately putting a tape in the recorder and pressing the button. This is what happened one of those times. I actually had a guitar cable that wasn't soldered together correctly, so one day it fell apart. Thankfully I had the idea that it might make for a cool sound, since at the time I was very much interested in music such as Pan-Sonic, and Jim O'Rourke. So grabbing the guitar and plugging everything in, set up a patch that was filled with echo and went to work. This song is basically all volume swells but with a bad cable and lots of effects. It's such a haunting soundscape that it made me feel as if I were deep in the Icelandic north. Hence the name... ICELAND.

I also just made a "SHORT" of the Field of Faith painting and will be sharing that in time. Just want people to see these first.

Jimi Gleason and Gregory Price @ Art Source Ohio

September 16th, I drove from Reynoldsburg, about 1.6 Hours northwest to a gallery called Art Source Ohio which is run by Legendary Sculptor Brett Price. It was the first time I have been to this glorious place. I just happened to walk in right at the beginning of a performance of some wonderful classical music played on the Clarinet. Once finished we were able to get to the normal introductions and get to talking painting, and sculpture, and BIG sculpture. I'm so grateful Jimi and Gregory had this wonderful exhibition together and within driving range. The exhibition runs through November 11th 2023, so there i still time to enjoy it. You'll be glad you did.

Gregory Price and Jimi Gleason

Jimi and I discussing his Painting.

The installation of this incendiary painting paired with the lyrical sculpture is particularly stunning. I couldn't take my eyes away from the iridescence of the blue, definitely a painting I would adore to see everyday in my own home. And pairing the painting is Gregory's amazing glass. Sorry I didn't get details as you know I love me some details, but thankfully the website has a LOT of that.

As you can see, absolutely stellar installation, so much room to stand back as far as you care to see the artwork.

I don't know how many glass artists have tried to make what looks like a painting in glass, but Gregory is doing really well at it. There is so much to look at and enjoy in these artworks. The layering he does in these really give you tremendous depth of color and shape, the lines are actually tubes that are cast and slowly melt into the layer below and create depth of unparalleled beauty.

Jimi asked which painting I admired the most. I immediately went to this one. If you follow me on instagram you may have seen it in a recent post of mine when I found a video of a Mansion walk-through in California by Producer Michael.

NYC Trip Full of Amazing Times!

Here is my photo essay of my trip to NYC. The grade this post deserves is probably a C since I'm not really discussing the trip to let you know of the various stories that come with every trip to the big city.

I got to town during what was probably the worst heat of the season. And finding myself sleeping in just yet another interesting situation. But I'm not here for the sleep, I'm here for the action. Got a beautiful parking spot where I didn't have to move almost the rest of the trip, and the even cooler thing was as I went to move the car, right across the street was the spot I was about to occupy. It was such a beautiful moment. Times like that help you in your journey to let you know a period of smooth is coming. But you never know how long it's gonna be, or actually when it will get there...that we can perceive.

I had a wonderful time with Francine Tint at her opening. It was the first I had been able to attend, and was so happy seeing her talking to colleagues and friends, some of whom have been in her life for many decades. The stories they must have. Francine finally got to introduce me to Marcelo the wonderful Gallerist at Upsilon that is bringing Francine further into the Artworld. I also was introduced to so many people that help at the Gallery and a few that I had known online but had yet to meet. And that's always wonderful.

You know

On my way to the gallery, I always like taking pictures of interesting moments to me.

Looking South

Looking North

Beautiful sky, so busy in NYC that you don't spend as much time taking in the nature as I do in Columbus, there, my eyes are usually magnetized to the pull of the sky.

A few extra pics from different moments are of my time hanging out with Robert C. Morgan, even got to have a wonderful meal with him, where we discussed our childhoods.

Yeah I snuck the pic, so what. LOL!

And the next photo is from my wonderful time with my close friend Anders Knutsson in his Brooklyn home. His area keeps growing and remodeling, it's amazing how much it changes each time I visit.

And a wonderful moment with Beatrice at Rodney DIckson's place on the last day before I headed back home.

I am filled with wonderful memories of this trip just like each and every one. I really want to begin doing more of these essays to publish on here as my trips grow and develop.
Thanks for reading and checking out the site.
Have a blessed week!
Jeffrey

NYC Campaign.

Hello Friends!

Today I'm making live the crowdfunding campaign to help me get to NYC and then back. As you know I've been visiting NYC many times in the last decade. So much so that I have measured the time and what I found out was technically I've lived in NYC for an entire year... just over 10+ years. LOL

I'm heading back there in September for Francine Tint's exhibition and to visit Anders Knutsson along with staying at Rodney Dickson's place again. I'm looking forward to the journey, even though it's a 9+ hour trip to and from, everytime I get to the area of Pennsylvania that I used to live around, I get a jolt of energy knowing that in less than 2 hours I'll be on the island. I am in need of Gas money along with Food and travel money and am asking for your glorious help.

Third of Five White on White Mini Testers. This one has a more open space the others don't have. Really lets you see the backside of the other side. There are no front and back, the front is the one you decide it is.
