New painting for the new year

Yesterday I finished my newest painting. A development in color for me. This wonderful meeting of Hansa Yellow and Green Gold on this textural surface. Creates some stunning transparencies that glow within the surface.

"01-27-2009 (Dreams of Spring)" 18" X 10" A/WF/C

I decided on the subtitle "Dreams of Spring" as it's got around 3 to 4 inches of snow outside right now. Slowing everything in the town to a snails pace. Good for contemplating painting, but not if you've got a bunch of things to do. Such as promoting my show with the WAC which is running till February 7th.

I was a bit on the weary side when beginning this final stage of painting. As I haven't really meshed with transparent colors much. As I always thought it created a bit too much of a monochrome surface, but as it was drying, I realized that these colors are really creating a wonderful depth within the surface of the painting. That makes me wanna develop this series of working with more transparent colors further.

Here are a few large files of the details of this painting.

Thanks for viewing.

For banishing those winter blues.

I just found this and it made me think of summer. Thanks to the ladies who took their vacation down in PR for taking this video.

Oh I can't wait for June!

James Kalm introduces us to a new side of Still

Here we get to watch "The guy on the bike" journey to Denver to see the unveiling of what I would consider a fantastic show of a ton of Clyfford Still paintings. Paintings I'm sure most artists living today never thought they would have the chance to see, as Still was very abrasive towards most people and didn't allow a lot of his paintings to be sold in his lifetime. When he passed away, his will stated that these works are only to be brought out of the storage when a museum has dedicated a "sub" museum for ONLY his paintings. So naturally I didn't think I'd live to see the day, but apparently it was in the works for a few years and is now coming to fruition.

Enjoy the video and check out more of James Kalms videos at...

New online portfolio

I have just finished up the beginning of another online art portfolio. This one is from Absolute Arts which i'm sure many of you receive their mailings each week. Their e-mails tell you of new shows from around the world and many other items.

There is also a section in the site where you can buy the paintings too. Or you can purchase just through getting in touch with me.

Thanks for viewing.

Joseph Marioni - Blue Paintings

I have just finished up a full digital scan of a favorite book from Joseph Marioni's show "Blue Paintings" and the Howard Yezerski Gallery in Boston. This book has many wonderful photos from Joseph's studio, along with a very informed writing by the painter about color and his thoughts about color and painting. I have uploaded it to my server to let everyone have an opportunity to enjoy it. And yes I was given permission to share this with everyone.
